Crystal Fire Studios is seeking poets and spoken word artists wishing to contribute to a spoken word and poetry with music project in Austin, Texas.
The project has begun (as of November 2005) and will evolve its own personality as we gather more material from the contributors. It is possible that we will do multiple projects concurrently, but what we are looking for are poems that collectively create a homogeneous work of art. Again, the project will evolve as poems are collected, and any single composition could steer the entire project and determine what the final form will be. At this point in time, Harry does not want to limit the scope or subject too narrowly. If you are passionate about your art, we invite you to come in and record your favorite poems. At a minimum, you'll receive a nice CD recording of your recitations. We are offering a $150 licensing fee for each work selected for the final published product. The copyright holders (the authors) retain all other rights in full to their recordings. A contract detailing the licensing agreement is available upon request and is written by Deena Kalai of McCyoy & Kalai, LLC.
The basic process is to schedule 10-12 poets for readings, record each potential contributor reciting for about an hour, select 1-2 works from each artist, compose music for each selection, mix each composition, master the set, and publish a CD. We have a support staff that provides artwork, legal, and business support for the project.
We do all of the recordings in our home studio in Hyde Park (just north of UT). The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, and the recording process is relaxed but efficient. Each contributor will receive a CD of their raw tracks upon completion of the session, and a six pack of the final product.
Please contact Debbie Roberts if you wish to participate or otherwise contribute to the project. We look forward to hearing from each of you.
